"the most efficient and effective way of entering contests..."
Noordwijkerhout, february 2008 – One of the main goals of World Press Photo, compared to the contest of 2006, was to raise the number of participants through the Internet to 60-80% of the total number of participants. This goal is more then achieved for the edition of 2007.
This year 80,536 high resolution images made by 5,019 photographers spread over 125 countries were uploaded into the World Press Photo contest system, set up by the imaging backbone. During the edition of 2006 almost 43 percent of the ± 4,000 participants, in total nearly 36,000 high resolution images, uploaded their images through the Internet. The numbers are thus more then doubled!
The imaging backbone is of course very proud with the fact that we helped World Press Photo achieving these goals. One of the biggest compliments the imaging backbone received via World Press Photo regarding the contest system was from one of the contesters:
“In all honesty I believe that your organization has the most efficient and effective way of entering contests, especially when one is entering in mass quantity like we do. The improvements with having one master login for a coordinator was great. Also, the improvement to the uploading of stories this year, i.e. the computer keeping the sequence order of the edits, was wonderful. The fact that the meta data is read and input automatically is also great. I wish other organizations would follow your lead on submitting entries.” (TIME Magazine).
